Royal Docks 'Flavour Rainbow' by Bompas & Parr

The Colour Feed:

Something deliciously chromatic is being conjured up in my East London neighbourhood the Royal Docks - a Flavour Rainbow created by Bompas & Parr. The duo are behind some of the most creative  experiential art and installations in existence, known for their imaginative large-scale, unexpected and unforgetteable ideas. I'll never forget the time I went to their Scratch and Sniff cinema long before Secret Cinema was a thing!

The pair have been commissioned to created a 'Flavour Rainbow' to compliment a Royal Docks Rainbow, both of which will be displayed in October as part of the Royal Docks Originals event.

The 'Flavour Rainbow' will be situted on Silvertown Way just below the underpass which is a short walk from Royal Victoria Docks DLR and the Emirates Airline cable car. It's been described as 'a sensory experience that immerses you in the history of the Royal Docks and Newham' - little else is known at this stage other than it will of course be colourful. Personally I'm hoping for a tasting element similar to the lickable wallpaper in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory that tastes like Tate & Lyles Golden Syrup which is made in the area, though maybe that's probably too much to dream of in a covid era?

The 'Flavour Rainbow' will be open Wednesday to Sunday 15-30 October. And the rainbows don't stop there. As well as this giant tasty treat, twice a day (weather permitting) a rainbow second will be projected over the skies of Royal Victoria Dock at some point between 10am-4pm. If you want to get your rainbow tracker on to witness it, keep an eye on their social media where timings will be announced.

The Royal Docks is fast becoming a creative hub in the capital so if you've not visited before, this is the perfect excuse. Look out too for the 'Royal Docks Colour Palette' I've created which appears in my forthcoming book "Hello Rainbow: Finding Happiness in Colour."
